ABOUT
URVI
Urvi Majumdar is a comedian, writer, producer and actor born in India but raised in Melbourne. She has performed to sold-out crowds across the country at The Melbourne International, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane Comedy Festivals. Urvi has previously written regularly for Channel Ten’s The Project and now regularly writes for ABC’s The Weekly with Charlie Pickering. You can see Urvi in ABC’s critically acclaimed series Fisk, Guy Montgomery’s Spelling Bee, Channel Ten’s Cheap seats, SBS’s Celebrity Letters & Numbers and as a supporting lead character in both seasons of Channel 9’s Metrosexual.
You can hear Urvi as a regular guest presenter on ABC radio, Triple J or Triple RRR where she’s often on the Friday Funny Bugger segment or a Fakefaster. In 2023 Urvi opened for renowned international acts Cat Cohen (US) and Kaneez Surka (IND/US). Urvi recently completed nationally touring her second hour of stand up titled BURNT which was the recipient of the Moosehead award by the Melbourne Comedy Festival, given to artists who show great potential.
Urvi’s online series ‘Urvi Went to an All Girls’ School was created as a part of the highly competitive Screen Australia and ABC Freshblood initiative and is available to watch on youtube now! Urvi’s team were selected into the next round of Freshblood in which they are creating a 30-minute pilot, to air on ABC in April 2025. Alongside her passion for stand up, Urvi is interested in writing for screen, acting and show running. She’s been a part of Screen Australia funded projects: Swamped and Emu War as well as Screen Tasmania funded project: Flatearthers. Urvi has been selected to participate in The Australian Writer’s Guild’s First Break Program in 2024.
Urvi also holds a masters degree in Education and has been a practising teacher for a number of years. Having also worked as a policy officer for the Department of Education and a senior producer at Footscray Community Arts, Urvi’s diverse range of work experiences make her an exciting leader within the Australia- India space. In 2023 Urvi was an Australian delegate for the prestigious Australia Indian Youth Dialogue.
Urvi has extensive experience performing, speaking and hosting at corporate events. She has hosted numerous events for different councils, performed at the Australia India Youth Dialogue closing dinner, Australia India Institute’s research launch, Melbourne University’s Lunch Time Laffs and was recently Master of Ceremony for Asia Society Australia’s Game Changer Awards night where she also interviewed MasterChef’s Poh Ling Yeow. Urvi’s style is catered to the event – she usually speaks to the specific audience in line with the event’s goals and has clean stand-up material. She can comfortably speak about: Diversity in the workspace, education and lifelong learning, Female empowerment in the workplace and fostering creativity.
